DC’s Scena Theatre presents an epic theatrical event. Join us for a modern reimagining of the famous tragedy AJAX by the Greek writer / philosopher, Sophocles. This powerful and contemporary production is reset in today’s war-torn Middle East. John Tipton's acclaimed translation showcases the plight of today's US soldier with raw vitality and deep compassion. And, the US conflicts overseas are examined with powerful insight and surprising revelations.
Armed conflicts have been a constant throughout history: from Troy and Constantinople to the American Revolution and WWII. From Iraq and Afghanistan to Ukraine and Gaza. Specifically, ancient Greece’s Trojan War has themes and lessons that are hauntingly similar to that of our wars in the Middle East. Each society experiences political turmoil, escalating debt, and battle-weary soldiers suffering from emotional distress like PTSD.
Scena Theatre takes a harsh look at the cost of war for our service members and the lessons we fail to learn after thousands of years of conflict. This show provides powerful commentary on the never-ending American war experience. Yet, audience members will see both sides and may form their own conclusions. This is a performance event not to be missed!
